In that Award (entries accepted from 2nd April to 29th June 2012) – a competition which aims to gather accomplished and distinctive product designs from a wide range of general users, with a view to turning the best ones into commercial products – KOKUYO Co., Ltd. received a total of 1,170 designs from both Japan and overseas (1,033 designs had a domestic source, while 137 came from abroad). Established to further strengthen our tradition of product creation that originates with the customer, the KOKUYO Design Award first started in 2010, making this year’s award the 10th time it has been held (2010 was the only year when it wasn’t). The theme of this year’s award was “Campus – Going beyond the notebook”. First appearing in 1975, Campus has a 37-year-long pedigree and is no longer just a brand of notebook – it’s now being restructured as a brand that “supports your study”, encompassing a range of products from stationery to furniture, even including spaces. For this competition, we gathered together novel designs that encapsulated that Campus brand spirit. The award-winning designs that won the Grand Prix and the Award for Excellence are as follows.
