Campus Evolves into a Brand for "Ways of Studying," Beyond Notebooks

Becoming a brand supporting personalized studying methods for every student through Study Recipes, a blend of methods and stationery that makes learning easy, enjoyable and clear

KOKUYO Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Osaka/President: Hidekuni Kuroda) announces that Campus, including the Campus Notebook which marks its 50th anniversary this year with cumulative sales of over 3.7 billion units as of the end of 2024, has been refreshed from September 2025 into a "ways of studying brand" that supports students' learning, rather than solely a notebook brand. Along with this transition, KOKUYO launched Study Recipes, a collection of tips and ideas for learning using stationery, designed to help students discover their own unique ways of studying. These study methods are introduced both online and in stores through products, supporting students to discover new approaches to learning.

1. Background to the Brand Refresh

Since its launch in 1975, Campus Notebooks have supported the "writing" aspect in the scenes of working, studying, and living for many customers. As we evolved with times and as the brand celebrates its 50th milestone year, we asked ourselves what responsibility we should fulfill through Campus for the future. By reexamining the brand from its foundations, we reaffirmed our aspiration to broadly and deeply support students' learning. Building on the know-how we have cultivated by closely observing learners and accompanying their studies through notebooks, and leveraging the strengths of a comprehensive stationery manufacturer, we aim to transform Campus into a brand that provides positive "ways of studying" to students worldwide who live in an uncertain and unpredictable era. Through stationery, a familiar and universally accessible tool, KOKUYO will continue to support students preparing to succeed in the future, standing by them with the new Campus as we embark on the challenge of the next 50 years.

2. What Is a "Ways of Studying Brand"?

The new Courses of Study call for a shift from the conventional memorization-centered learning to active learning and continuous learning through trial and error, placing greater emphasis on creativity, thinking skills, and decision-making skills, in light of the rapid spread of digital technologies and globalization (*1). In reality, however, while opportunities to access information have increased dramatically and the range of learning choices has expanded, many students struggle to find the learning style best suited to them and often lack confidence. KOKUYO believes that in this age of information overload, providing learning support tailored to each individual has become increasingly important.
The renewed Campus brand combines 50 years of accumulated expertise in writing with knowledge of student learning, to become a "ways of studying brand" that maximizes the potential of every student and creates new value.

3. About Study Recipes

(1) What are Study Recipes?

Study Recipes are KOKUYO's proposed ideas for ways of studying that combine stationery and learning methods, designed to help students continue learning independently and consistently, while engaging in trial and error with ease. Just as there are many different methods and no single correct process for preparing a dish, we believe it is important for students to experiment repeatedly until they discover the approach to studying that suits them best. As tips for finding one's own way of learning, we will present a variety of Study Recipes. Going forward, we plan to collect feedback from students who have tried these recipes and to develop new Study Recipes based on their insights.

(2) Background to Study Recipes

According to KOKUYO's survey (conducted October 2024/n=1,586), the main challenges students feel in their studies are "raising and maintaining motivation" and "using time efficiently." In terms of study methods of interest, "time management techniques" and "note-taking techniques" ranked highest. To begin with, we will respond to these evident needs by proposing recipes that help enhance motivation and enable effective use of time.

(3) First Study Recipes Lineup

The Study Recipes to be released in September will introduce four study methods and useful stationery items: "Quick note study" for writing and reviewing notes quickly in textbooks and other materials, "Bite-sized study" for compact-sized notes that can be reviewed repeatedly during small breaks, "Binder study" for organizing handouts and preventing loss by compiling them with a binder and slim punch, "Motivating study" for creating personalized and enjoyable study plans, and "Essential stationery" to reduce stress when using stationery.
