Occupational Health and Safety

We are committed to providing a safe and comfortable workplace in which employees feel engaged and able to excel to the full.
Our integrated package of health and safety programs includes safety training for preventing occupational accidents. It also includes programs to support employees’ physical and mental wellness, so that employees continue to feel engaged in their job.

System for Occupational Health and Safety

We want employees to feel engaged in their job and to reach their full potential. A necessary condition for this is providing employees with a safe, secure, and pleasant working environment, with safety measures in place for times of disaster.
On this belief, the KOKUYO Group Central Safety Health Committee—which has the function of overseeing safety and health within the KOKUYO Group—coordinates with the health and safety committee of each workplace to establish the necessary systems and processes for employee safety, incorporating the opinions of employees themselves.
We engage in health and safety efforts on a daily basis with the goal of reducing occupational accidents to zero.
We participate as a board member company in the labor standards association and job-creation association at the head office location to stay up to date with latest announcements and guidance from public authorities so that we avoid violating the Labor Standards Act.
We also have a dedicated internal team that monitors regulatory developments to ensure that we comply with the latest regulations and manage regulatory risks effectively.
If an occupational accident or incident does occur, it will be reported to senior management without delay so that steps can be taken to minimize the risk impact.

ISO 45001 Certification

We have a system in place for managing occupational health and safety in compliance with legal requirements applying in the territories where we operate. The system includes organizational processes for protecting employee safety. It also includes group-wide processes for cases where an occupational incident occurs. These incident processes ensure the timely communication of information and ensure that processes are rectified as necessary in light of such information.
As of May 2026, two KOKUYO Group companies have obtained ISO 45001 certification: KOKUYO Camlin Ltd. and Dongguan Lamex Furniture Co., Ltd.

Actions

Plant Safety Checks, Safety Awareness Survey

Between early 2025 and February 2026, we conducted two major initiatives to reappraise safety levels from a more impartial and multifaceted perspective as part of our perennial commitment to zero occupational accidents.
The first initiative was a plant safety checkup. We hired a third-party expert to conduct the checkup at 11 plants of five companies in Japan.
We actively incorporated the third-party expert’s observations, giving us an impartial eye on the easily missed risks lurking in everyday workflows.
Guided by the expert advice, we will take the necessary measures in both hard and soft infrastructure to expedite our pursuit of safety excellence.
The second initiative was a safety awareness survey. We hired a third-party organization to conduct the survey among employees working in manufacturing and distribution workplaces.
The survey results indicated that, on the whole, safety awareness and safety behavior are well entrenched among the employees.
The results also revealed a clear correlation between the quality of safety behavior and the degree of intra-organizational communication.
The correlation implies that workplaces with fluid communication have a better safety culture.
In light of this finding, we will improve both structural and cultural aspects of safety.
Incorporating employee feedback, we will develop effective safety structures and foster a communicative organizational culture so that employees can always feel safe and secure in their workplace.

Management Training for Engineering Staff

To facilitate the communication and problem solving necessary for safety, the KOKUYO Group Central Safety Health Committee and KOKUYO Academy run a talent development program for plant engineering staff with medium and long term time horizons.
The learning content is tailored to rank. For managers, the program includes coaching. For employees with potential to become leaders in the future, it includes communication training and problem-solving tasks.
It also includes repeated workshops in which such future leaders practice expressing their ideas and communicating with others. With such content, attendees master the process for solving problems in the workplace and gain a clearer understanding of how to be a leader.
The training program is being rolled out to other workplaces across KOKUYO Group to encourage cross-business interactions and knowledge sharing, which will foster a more dynamic organizational culture.

KOKUYO Group Safety Conference

During Japan’s National Safety Week* (July 1 to 7 every year), we organize safety conferences to enhance safety-consciousness in manufacturing, construction, and product development workplaces across KOKUYO Group. The conference programs are intricately designed for each region.
The 2025 conference included presentations about cases that occurred during the year and instructions about preventing similar cases. It also included a presentation of awards to commend excellence in health and safety and a transport safety seminar.
Each conference concludes with a pledge to make the ensuing year incident-free.

    Run by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare and the Japan Industrial Safety & Health Association, National Safety Week is a campaign that calls upon employers to take voluntary actions to prevent workplace injuries. It also aims to raise awareness about health and safety and entrench workplace safety.
