An Office That Embodies Business Strengths and Draws People Together

In 2024, the Electronic Materials Business Division[DW1] of Panasonic Industry Co., Ltd.[DW2] fully renovated its long-used Nishikadoma Office, consolidating departments that had previously been spread across separate buildings into a single facility. The office was reborn as a hub designed to support new ways of working.
The division had identified several challenges: a lack of face-to-face communication caused by teams working in separate locations, difficulty fostering a sense of unity across the division, and an office environment that, while having supported employees for many years, felt outdated.
KOKUYO addressed these issues at their root, proposing a workspace that would resolve them while presenting a new symbol that reflects the division’s unique strengths and builds a strong sense of cohesion. The result is a workplace that balances the functionality and safety required of a contemporary office.
The new office was comprehensively redesigned towards the realization of Panasonic Industry’s vision: “Looking ahead to indications of the future to lead society’s transformation with our customers”. By creating a workplace where employees can actively interact, the new workplace brings interdepartmental collaboration in a single building, naturally reducing the distance between departments and fostering an environment that encourages everyday communication.
At the entrance is a car-shaped object made from the division’s key product, electronic circuit board materials. This symbolic space intuitively conveys how the division’s technologies connect with and contribute to society, fostering pride in the business and enhancing motivation at work.
In addition, a central multifunctional circle area and the introduction of hot desking have invigorated communication across departmental boundaries. Meetings that once took place mainly in conference rooms are now a common sight in open areas, allowing information and ideas to circulate more widely throughout the office.
In this way, the new office not only improves functionality and ease of working, but also cultivates a strong sense of unity by drawing people together naturally in a space[DW1] that represents the division itself. The result is a vibrant office that enhances both employee comfort and fulfillment.

A New Way of Working, Made Possible by Mobility

A key focus of the new office was to move away from reliance on fixed furniture and instead create spaces that can quickly and freely adapt to changing situations, enabling people to gather easily as needed. Another important point in revitalizing the organizational culture was fostering visible communication in open areas, not only within enclosed meeting rooms.
Supporting this concept are the central circle area and project spaces that utilize Any way. Combining mobility with strong design, Any way allows layouts to be reconfigured instantly, seamlessly accommodating a wide range of activities. Meetings, events, town halls, and discussions with student interns can all take place in a single space that transforms fluidly to suit the moment.
The “Any way” chairs in particular stand out for their unified color scheme extending even to the casters, along with a simple, modern form. They offer a unique balance of high design quality and functionality, including stackability and smooth mobility. The ability to quickly deploy the required number of chairs depending on the occasion makes them a core element supporting flexible ways of working.
Within this new office environment, spontaneous interactions such as cross-department lunch gatherings have begun to emerge, and communication that was difficult to achieve in closed spaces has become visible and pervasive throughout the office.
As employees choose where they work and reconfigure spaces as needed, the everyday scenes of work themselves are changing, driving a cultural transformation across the division.
As a movable, adaptable workplace solution, Any way powerfully supports the energy and creativity of the new office.
